ABOUT US
PALTERNA works with private collectors, corporations and institutional clients, to help them build and enhance their art, hypercar, high jewellery and watch collections and help them acquire some of the rarest alternative assets and luxury goods, through the world’s leading art dealers, brand owners and specialist dealers.
Our emphasis is on building long-term client relationships between collectors and brands or galleries, as well as creating truly memorable experiences. We work with notable private collectors and families, foundations and corporations.
Client confidentiality is paramount to us and we do not disclose information relating to any of our clients or about their collections. The only people who know our clients are the art dealers and brand owners we choose to work together with, if we have not been instructed to act on behalf of our clients to protect their anonymity. Often our clients become close friends with our company and the owners of the other companies we are working together with.
We work with almost 100 major gallery owners around the world and particularly closely with The Matthiesen Gallery, the world’s leading old master paintings gallery for Italian paintings, based in London, St James’s.
The Matthiesen Gallery was founded in 1978 by our dear friend, Patrick Matthiesen, son of renowned Berlin and London dealer Francis Matthiesen, who had arranged the sale of pictures on behalf of The Hermitage in the late 1920s and 30s. Now entering its fifth decade, this purpose-built gallery that resembles a private museum, has established a formidable reputation as a leading international dealer in important Italian, French and Spanish artworks, dating from the 14th Century up to and including many of the major nineteenth century schools. Over the years the Gallery has sold on multiple occasions to almost 110 international museum institutions.
The Matthiesen Gallery has established its continuing commitment to mounting exhibitions accompanied by scholarly catalogues which have not only fostered art historical discussion, but also in some cases, introduced new areas of connoisseurship and collecting to the London and international markets.
